Hyperline patch cord buying guide

Cat5e and Cat6 cords

The PC-LPM-UTP-RJ45 series is unshielded and comes in Cat5e and Cat6. Cat5e is fine for basic networks. Cat6 gives more headroom. Choose the category that matches your jacks and gear, and use the same category throughout your closet so every link performs the same.

Lengths and colors

Choose a length that reaches without leaving slack. Short cords of 1 to 3 foot suit a rack. Longer cords of 10 to 25 foot suit desks. Black, blue and white cords make it easy to separate voice, data and uplinks. Check the code in the part number, for example 25F-BK is 25 foot black.

Tools and termination

The NE-TOOL is a termination tool for KJNE type jacks. Use it when you terminate your own cable. Buy extra cords for moves and changes, because a short cord can be hard to reuse in a different setup. Look at the listing for each item.

Why add spares

Patch cords wear out when they are plugged and unplugged. A rack with a spare of each length and color lets you fix a problem in minutes. The listings give you Cat5e and Cat6 in six or more lengths, so one order can cover a whole closet.
