Before you order

  • Match the fiber type. Multi-mode modules need multi-mode fiber and single mode modules need single mode fiber, so check your cable first.
  • Check the speed. Modules here are listed at 1G and 10G, so confirm what your switch port supports.
  • Check the pack size. Modules are sold in 2 packs, a 20 pack and a BiDi 1-pair, so count your connections.
  • Not sure? Send us the device models on each end and we will check the match.

Ubiquiti fiber module buying guide

Multi-mode and single mode modules

Fiber modules plug into switch and gateway ports. Multi-mode modules are used with multi-mode fiber on shorter runs. Single mode modules are used with single mode fiber, often for longer runs. The two types do not mix, so look at the label on your fiber before you choose.

Speed and pack size

The U Fiber modules here are listed at 1G in a 20 pack and 10G in a 2 pack. The single mode 1G BiDi item is sold as a 1-pair. A BiDi pair uses one fiber strand for both directions and the two ends are different, so keep the pair together.

AirVision NVR products

AirVision NVR products also appear in this category, including single mode and fiber GPON versions. Read the full product name before ordering, and call us if you are not sure how a listing fits your network. Check each listing first.

Where modules are used

Modules fit SFP and SFP+ cages in switches, gateways and other equipment. A 1G module will not give you 10G speed, and a 10G module may not work in every 1G port. Check the specification sheet of the port, and order matching modules for both ends of the link.

Common questions

Can I use a 10G module in a 1G port?

Port compatibility depends on the device. Check the manufacturer specification for your port.

Can I mix single mode and multi-mode?

No. The module and the fiber must be the same type.
